U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announces arrest of convicted criminal in Idaho

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the arrest of Catherin Palacios-Medina, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, after her conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or instrument in Jerome, Idaho.

The arrest followed cooperation between local and federal authorities. The Jerome County Jail honored an ICE detainer and released Palacios-Medina into federal custody on April 24, according to the Department of Homeland Security press release. The agency said the arrest was part of operations targeting convicted criminal illegal aliens. Palacios-Medina entered the United States illegally from Mexico.

The Jerome Police Department has reported 11 aggravated assault incidents in 2024, according to Idaho State Police data. Local law enforcement works with federal partners to address public safety threats from criminal illegal aliens convicted of violent offenses. Idaho has seen targeted ICE operations removing individuals with assault and other criminal convictions from communities across the state.

Federal enforcement data show thousands of arrests of criminal aliens by U.S. Border Patrol in recent fiscal years, including hundreds of cases involving assault, battery, and domestic violence convictions. ICE prioritizes the removal of noncitizens with serious criminal histories. The agency maintains daily operations to identify and remove convicted individuals who may pose any risk to public safety, according to U.S. Border Patrol enforcement statistics.
