Liberty Gold announced on Apr. 13 plans to expand previous open-pit mining operations at the former Black Pine Gold Mine near Juniper, Idaho. The proposal involves work on both National Forest System lands and adjacent lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

The Sawtooth National Forest, in cooperation with the BLM Pocatello Field Office, will evaluate how this proposed expansion could affect natural resources and the human environment. The review process is intended to ensure that potential impacts are considered before any development moves forward.

A public meeting regarding the project will take place at Raft River High School, located at 55 N 1st Street in Malta, Idaho. The meeting is scheduled for April 15 at 6 p.m., providing an opportunity for community members to learn more about the proposal and share their views.

The collaboration between federal agencies reflects a standard approach when projects may impact public lands or local communities. Such meetings are part of efforts to involve stakeholders early in planning processes.

As next steps, input from this meeting may inform future decisions about permitting or environmental review requirements related to Liberty Gold’s proposed activities.
