The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office announced on Apr. 10 that it will support the transition to a newly formed Ketchum Police Department, ensuring continued public safety services for the community.

The announcement marks a significant change for residents and businesses in Ketchum, as law enforcement responsibilities shift from the county sheriff’s office to the new department. The move aims to maintain uninterrupted police services while establishing local control over policing in Ketchum.

Sheriff Morgan Ballis said, “It has been our honor to serve the residents of Ketchum and to provide the highest level of law enforcement professionalism and public safety services. Since 2009, our Ketchum Patrol Team has done an exemplary job of serving and protecting the Ketchum community.” Ballis also said, “We are incredibly proud of the positive impact we have made and the strong relationships we have built within this community.”

Ballis emphasized that his office is committed to supporting a well-coordinated transition: “We will do everything in our power to set the new KPD up for long-term success, ensuring the continuity of essential public safety services for Ketchum residents, businesses, and visitors.” He added that transparency would be maintained throughout by providing regular updates on timelines and milestones.

The sheriff’s office extended thanks for “17 years of trust and collaboration” with local residents, leaders, and partners. The statement concluded with best wishes for “the new KPD every success in serving the community.”
